Emergency lighting testing in South Croydon for businesses, landlords and managing agents. We carry out monthly checks and annual full-duration tests, record the results in your log book and fix any fittings that fail.

Once a month, each emergency light should be switched to battery for a short time to check it comes on. This is usually done with a test key switch that cuts the supply to the lights. Any fitting that doesn't light, or flickers, needs looking at.
Once a year, every fitting must run on battery for its full rated time, usually three hours. This shows whether the batteries still hold enough charge. Batteries need up to a day to recharge afterwards, so the test is best done when the building is closed or quiet.
Every test, fault and repair should be written in an emergency lighting log book. Fire officers and insurers may ask to see it, and it shows the person responsible for the building is meeting their duties. We fill in the log for each visit.
We agree a testing schedule with you, including whether you'd like us to do the monthly checks or just the annual test. Before the first visit, we look at your layout and log book to check how many fittings there are and where the test switches are.
On the day, we test each fitting, note any that fail or don't last the full duration, and check exit signs are clear and lit. Failed batteries, lamps or fittings can often be replaced on the same visit, and every result goes in the log book.
Call or send a message about the job. For urgent faults we aim to respond the same day, with no call-out charge.
An electrician comes out, checks the job and talks you through the options, then you get a free, no-obligation quote.
When the work is finished, we test everything we've worked on and hand over the right certificate for the job.
Emergency lights should have a short function test every month and a full-duration test once a year, as set out in BS 5266. The results go in a log book. Some fittings have automatic self-test, but they still need checking and the results recording.
Yes. A responsible member of staff can carry out the monthly function test with the test key and record it in the log book. The annual full-duration test and any repairs are best carried out by an electrician, who can also issue the certificate.
The faulty fittings should be repaired or replaced as soon as possible, as the escape route isn't properly covered until they are. Common causes are worn-out batteries or failed lamps. We record the failure, fix it and retest so your log book shows the issue was dealt with.
Typically around four years, though it varies with the type of battery, how warm the fitting gets and how often the power fails. Fittings that no longer last their full rated time on the annual test need new batteries or replacing.
